Lawsuits Against Circle of Hope Girls Ranch

There have been a large number of complaints from former students alleging that the staff at Circle of Hope Girls Ranch abused them.

Circle of Hope Girls Ranch was an unlicensed reformatory boarding school/residential treatment center in Humansville, Missouri, and marketed as a Christian boarding school aimed at helping troubled youth.

The school, owned by Stephanie and Boyd Householder, opened in July 2006 and closed in 2021 due to allegations of abuse.

Before the school closed, parents, former students, and staff repeatedly reported concerns to state authorities, but no action was taken.

According to a recent complaint, child abuse complaints were reported in 2017 and 2018 by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, but federal prosecutors chose not to file charges.

Former students allege that the Missouri Department of Social Services mostly ignored their complaints about the ranch.

When the Missouri attorney general finally filed charges against Boyd Householder, the allegations were called “extensive and horrific” and he called the case, “one of the most widespread cases of sexual, physical, and mental abuse patterns against young girls in Missouri history.”

By 2021, the Householders faced felony charges—including rape, sodomy, and physical abuse.

Boyd Householder faced 78 felony charges, including statutory rape, sodomy, and physical abuse.

Stephanie was charged with 21 felony counts, including child abuse, neglect, and endangerment, and will be facing trial in 2025.

Even though Boyd passed away on June 25, 2024, just months before his scheduled trial, criminal charges and civil lawsuits can still be filed against the Householders and the Circle of Hope Girls Ranch.

As a result, lawsuits are currently being filed against Circle of Hope Girls Ranch and potentially against the Department of Social Services, for allegedly failing to investigate or act on reports of abuse despite numerous complaints.

Anyone who was sexually abused, physically abused, or assaulted at Circle of Hope Girls Ranch, even if the abuse occurred years ago, may soon be eligible for significant compensation.

It’s common for victims of abuse, sexual assault, and sexual abuse to discount the fact that they’ve been hurt by a person that they trust, such as a counselor or director, or they might feel ashamed, embarrassed, and scared to tell others about the abuse.

If you or a loved one have experienced sexual assault, unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate sexual touching, or psychological or physical abuse, you or your loved one should receive help and seek justice.

Although we know that even 7-figure compensation can’t erase a life-altering event, or heal the pain, it can at least help reduce the financial stress and help hold offenders and their employers accountable to help prevent future abuse.
